The seventh stage of the 18th edition of the Rally dos Sertões.

Fourth stage of World Championship Rally Raid, continues to evolve in
Brazilians roads, where Uruguayan Laurent Lazard (KTM 690) and Mauro Almeida (Yamaha 700)
continue to be in the 29th and 13th position Motorcycle and ATV categories respectively.

(Laurent said) “I had a quiet race because after the problem
yesterday in the river, wanted it anyway at the end to reach my
mechanic to check the bike thoroughly. Yesterday I had to change twice the
oil of my bike to remove all water.
The truth has been a rally the most frustrating because I had many difficulties beyond my
responsibility and some mistakes of mine, “the faster moving
by a section that was not allowed, that no twenty competencies together
I pass. But … well, racing is racing
and should be taking as experience.
Just follow the race and that is very important if we consider
the large number of participants who have been left behind. ”

For Almeida was a stage that is fully developed in liaison section, almost 520 km, which is
very difficult to take because you have to go to a very low average speed and get tired faster.

Completed in the first Super Rally Rally Silver Beach.
Now (Sunday)working in the pits to leave vehicles in order for the marathon stage.

During the race moves step “Marathon” in which no competitor
mechanical assistance can count on the vehicle after a certain stage.
At the end of this (5th) stage, all vehicles must remain in the Closed Park
support until the day of the test without any access
they can only clean the filters , only bikes are allowed.

This is the 18th Edition of this rally, in total, is 4437 km, between shifts and special.
This year, motorcycles and quads, competition will value of the Brazilian championship and the fourth time the World-FIM Cross Country Rally.
There are four subcategories of motorcycles and quads and the classification will be based on the capacity of each.

Rally Sertões discussed in cross-country mode, in which competitors
leave a transfer between two different points, the special happen, also called
timed sections totaling 56% of the race this year.

In total, six states of Brazil will be part of the Rally dos Sertões .

Each vehicle involved in the Rally of the Hinterlands is divided into categories and
sub-category, according to the model, fuel type, weight and preparedness.

Already talking about the race, we say that the start was made last night in a stadium
where a motocross track. There in an impressive ceremony attended by over 30,000
thousand spectators, turned, without any pretense, for Lazard or Almeida, because the first
has a motorcycle 690 and the second one quad.
The characteristics were more suitable for 450 cc motorcycles.

Today it started the first stage which had been mixed Laurent Lazard
between the edge, on a jump bike is positioned inclined and can not straighten.
Following the Uruguayan who falls. This caused some scratches all over his body
for the pilot, while on the bike broke some plastics and the gas tank.
The latter was that delayed a lot since he had to overcome this problem.

“The fact that we have not started anything
well because at times I’ve been fighting every inch with pointers, in a leap

The Off Road Team integrated for the Uruguayan rider Laurent Lazard(#4), the Colombian Antonio Narino (#52), and the Uruguayan Mauro Almeida (#208), they going to participate in the 18 edition of Rally Dos Sertoes.

This race conformed in 10 days, from 10 to 21 of August, they going to participate from many Countries ….235 competitors
in 155 vehicles, 70 motorcycles, 15 four wheelers, 60 cars,and 10 trucks
in the list bigger than 2009 edition 11 countries plus Brasil going to say present, In the course of almost 4500 kilometers, with high of 52.7% of marked route
by timed, Argentinian, Belgian, Chilean, Spanish, French, Holland,
American, Portuguese, South Africans, Venezuelans and Uruguayans fight
with the Brazilians to win the title. Competitors will cross six
States: Goiás, Minas Gerais, Tocantins, Maranhão, Piauí and Ceará, four of the five regions
dividing Brazil, Midwest, Southeast, North and Northeast.

Among the main foreign names on two wheels highlight the Spanish Marc Coma
triple world champion (2005/06/07) Cross Country Rally and the legendary Dakar champion (2006/09)
and Frenchman David Casteau among Europeans.

All Off Road Uruguay team has been working on bikes Monday to letting go
everything in order for those who will be the first step Tuesday.

The reconnaissance team led by David Castera has already driven a few thousand kilometres and had some hitches along the way in Argentina and Chile when finishing the reconnaissance of the final route of the Rally Raid. Here is the story of the first reconnaissance tour.

It all starts with a dive into mapping software systems for weeks. The IT tool provides a realistic, a precise vision of the terrain where drivers, riders and teams of the Dakar will fight for victory. The stage cities are chosen on the basis of the software assessment. It is then time to go there and check the consistency of the draft route. This is the purpose of the first series of reconnaissance that was completed a few days ago in Argentina and Chile. David Castera, the race manager, made three stays in the field with the South-American teams of the rally to check all sites and trails on the agenda. Drawn in details after the first round of recce, the route will then be put forward for approval to representatives of the authorities in charge of environmental protection and to associations in charge of protecting archaeological sites. People from both structures shall also ride along with the team for the second run of reconnaissance that will drive the route once again this summer.

As planned, it is in the North of Argentina that David started previewing the route contenders will have to face. Immediately, the “trail hunter” has his first disappointments: “We moved very slowly because a lot of the trails did not exist or would lead us towards hills and mountains that are too high. Eventually we found a pretty wide corridor that will take us to Tucuman and then to Jujuy. In terms of landscapes, I really liked the fairy chimneys that can be seen in the background in the area. The other satisfaction of the beginning of the raid is to reuse the principle of separate stages for bikes and then cars and trucks, with e.g. more technical sections for the two-wheelers.”

For this third Latin-American edition of the raid, the Dakar will pursue its discovery of Chile up to Arica, just a stone’s throw from the Peruvian border. The stay in the Atacama Desert will – once again – be the highlight of the Chilean part of the raid:“Opportunities are almost endless around the two huge sand banks and dunes of Copiapo and Iquique. I keep finding locations each time I go there. The contenders are in for new surprises”, explains Castera talking about the stages designed in the kingdom of off-road rallying.

When inspiration is missing, chance seems to come to the rescue of the reconnaissance team looking for routes that will challenge the contenders on the way back to Buenos Aires: “After a stage where the contenders will have to fight against the white sand dunes in Fiambala, I wanted to keep the bar high and the race intense up to the finish line. But to reach San Juan, I had found nothing but useless or uninteresting trails. I was getting depressed when we met a tour guide specialized in hiking who knows the area like the back of his hand. We had a chat; he called some of his buddies to the rescue and the next day, we were five men looking for the right track for the special stage in question!” With the help of his new improvised recce team mates, David was pretty happy about the gems found by his table neighbours: “In a nutshell, it is really the most beautiful stage of the rally both for the race and for the landscape. It runs through canyons and rios; it plunges into valleys of red rocks… it is simply amazing!”
